Our final stop before heading home was three days in Edinburgh with Marina. We stayed in a great Airbnb with a central location and fantastic restaurants nearby. One evening Aiden was more interested in having time on his technology and something easy for dinner, the girls felt like we wanted something interesting and found a great tapas restaurant. It was a lovely meal with great bonding between Sophie, Marina and myself. While in Edinburgh we discovered that the Royal Highland agricultural festival was on. We lucked out and got to visit on the festival’s final day, it was amazing and something we would highly recommend. Again another experience where pictures speak more than words. It was amazing to see a huge variety of sheep cattle and horses. We got to see horse jumping a very rapid sheep shearing competition one by a woman and the prize cattle and horses on their final parade this was an incredibly unique experience, and we felt lucky to have happened on it. We also really enjoyed the local food fair and all the samples of tasty treats.
A friend of Marina’s recommended we visit the Mary king Close to give a real sense of Edinburgh’s history. One hour tour takes you with a guide in costume through the underground world below the golden mile where the lower class lived. We heard moving stories of people’s lives their work, the myths and legends, and the devastation of the plague. We visited the St. Giles theatre and toured the Edinburgh Castle.
