The Journey Begins Here

Exploring the world, learning about history, culture, art and nature with our family, while also working on school and CME.

This is how it all started…

Alastair and I connected on our love of travelling early in our relationship. Both of us had travelled quite extensively before we returned to University. Early in our relationship we traveled to Belize and Guatemala, several places in the United states and Mexico.  We decided to get married while we were in India. Early on it became a dream to take our children on a traveling adventure where we could disconnect from the regular pressures of life and focus on learning together. We know our kids are growing up quickly and we know the world is changing rapidly. Both Alastair and I believe that some of our own most important learning and growth opportunities occurred because we had the opportunity to travel at a young age. We have been saving money for many years and preparing our kids mentally for this exciting adventure since the age they began to talk. We have been trying to foster a curiosity about the world, other cultures, history and the arts early on. Although it is hard for Sophie and Aiden to leave their lives in Saskatoon, particularly their friends, they are coping well and are grateful for each other. The kids erearder and their immense love of reading, as well as playing lots of cards, has helped with the initial transition. It will be another transition when school gets started this fall and we all begin to work on ongoing education. Both Alastair and I have learning projects as we believe making learning formally part of the trip will help everyone stay on task, Sophie will have a lot of work to complete grade 10 virtually.

Thank you for coming along on our adventure please feel free to leave our comments or reach out to us via WhatsApp or e-mail, we would Love to hear from you.

Instead, we enjoyed a great tour of the local valleys. Visiting the Fairy Chimneys and Uchisar, a rock castle, at the highest point of Cappadocia gave us…

    Pamukkale and Hierapolis

We had an adventure travelling Pamukkale and Hierapolis. I had booked our train tickets through the Turkish Rail system website, despite some English translation much of the website remained in Turkish. I booked the eight of us to travel to the train station identified by the website as the closets to Pamukkale (retrospectively I should…
