We had a lovely five nights in Bath visiting my cousin, Marina and her husband, Donal. We cooked some amazing meals, and Sophie was grateful to be able to use Marina’s kitchen for many of her food science course assignments. Marina served us wonderful meals and we enjoyed cooking together, a passion we share. We all enjoyed our tour of the Roman Baths and wandering around Central Bath, a Heritage city. It is steeped in history and particularly the Roman Baths, with an excellent audio guide. On Saturday the boys attended Connor’s rugby match. Marina, Sophie and I visited “House Number One” a restored Victorian house with audio recordings showing how a family would live in Victorian time. It’s audio guide which incorporates wall projections images of the family and furnishing of the house. It told an engaging story of a fictional family, with five teenage children and their season renting the house in Bath during Victorian time, with the goal of the daugther’s “Coming Out” in society and finding suitors. It was well done and interesting to see what life was like in that time. We also enjoyed hike around the hills around Bath, about three hours. It was beautiful and gave us amazing views of Bath, distant views of Britan and even very distant views of Wales.
Another highlight of our time and bath was Aiden getting to explore Donal and the boy’s collection of Star Wars Lego and their books. It was exciting for Aiden to build a millennium falcon from 2000, he ended up completing it on the last day we were in Bath. Face-to-face dog time with Lily and Tara was wonderful, it made us recognize how much we miss Abbey. Mariana introduced Sophie and I to her addiction, Strictly Come Dancing. We all developed a passion for this amazing show and we were really disappointed that it cannot be accessed outside England.
On our final day we went for a big hike around the hills around Bath, about three hours. This was beautiful and gave us amazing views of Bath, distant views of Bristol and even very distant views of Wales. Next time we visit we will make a trip to Wrexam (Al’s birthplace) and the Lake district. We then walked to their families favourite pub the Horse and Hound (it has beautiful views), where Hugh and Rory met us. We were thrilled that their three adult sons; Connor, Hugh, and Rory, joined us for Sunday dinner.
