We had a lovely five nights in Bath visiting my cousin, Marina and her husband, Donal. We cooked some amazing meals, and Sophie was grateful to be able to use Marina’s kitchen for many of her food science course assignments. Marina served us wonderful meals and we enjoyed cooking together, a passion we share. We all enjoyed our tour of the Roman Baths and wandering around Central Bath, a Heritage city. It is steeped in history and particularly the Roman Baths were out laid with an excellent audio guide. On Saturday the boys attended Connor’s rugby match. Marina, Sophie and I visited “House Number One” an old, restored Victorian house with audio recordings showing how a family would live in Victorian time. Its audio guide and wall projections and furnishing tell the story of a family with five kids and their season renting the house in Bath during Victorian time. It was done well; it was very interesting to see what life was like back then. We went for a big hike around the hills around Bath, about three hours. This was beautiful and gave us amazing views of Bath, distant views of Britan and even very distant views of Wales.
Another highlight of our time and bath was Aiden getting to explore Donal and the boy’s collection of Star Wars Lego and their books. It was exciting for Aiden to build a millennium falcon from 2000, he ended up completing it on the last day we were in Bath. Face-to-face dog time with Lily and Tara was wonderful, although it made us all remember how much we miss Abby.
On our final day we went for a big hike around the hills around Bath, about three hours. This was beautiful and gave us amazing views of Bath, distant views of Bristol and even very distant views of Wales. Next time we visit we will make a trip to Wrexam (Al’s birthplace) and the Lake district. We then walked to their families favourite pub the Horse and Hound (it has beautiful views), where Hugh and Rory met us. We were thrilled that their three adult sons; Connor, Hugh, and Rory, joined us for Sunday dinner.
