Athens

Athens was “a really cool city”, so many people packed together tightly with tall apartments everywhere. In the middle of the city on the tall hill stands the Acropolis and the Parthenon.  Walking in what seemed like a modern city, only to come across ancient ruins is a very typical experience in Athens. We stayed in a fantastic Airbnb, with a great location!  The views from the Parthenon were amazing. You could see the ocean, mountains, the entire city, and the ruins.  Aiden and I really enjoyed the acropolis museum. It was very interesting to see all the relief art from the Parthenon that documented the history of Troy, the Trojan war, and some of the important Greek myths.

We were grateful for a family friends’ recommendation on a local, very authentic place to try some fantastic Greek food. Sophie and I enjoyed the girl’s day out where we scrolled around the tourist, neighbourhoods and shops, we visited the famous flea market and enjoyed checking out all jewelry, antiques, old typewriters and many interesting cameras, even old swastika pins that were for sale at one of the shops. We met up with Aiden and Alastair to go to the museum of illusions, which was entertaining for all of us, despite some motion sickness!    Alastair and I enjoyed our long walks exploring different neighbourhoods of city where the locals live. On the way home from one of our walks we decided to revisit the original Olympic Stadium and unfortunately got trapped in the area around the site, and had to walk a few extra kilometres. On Sunday we got to witness the impressive, slow motion, Grand Change of the Guard outside the Presidential Mansion.
