Rieth Alpbachtal, Austria

We were thrilled to meet up with my mom, Mimi in Innsbruck for a week of exploring the Alps and Dolmites. We loved our time in Reith Alpbachtal, a gorgeous town and ski area in Austria. The home we stayed in was beautiful and huge with amazing mountain views and directly across the street was a local swimming lake. Everyone coming to the area must get a tourist card, which allows you free access to the gondolas, making touring very accessible. The hiking trails were designed to entertain kids with many cool structures like zip lines, obstacle courses, goat, feeding, wooden play structures, and bowling. There was also a bog which stole one of Aidenā€˜s running shoes. A lovely little young local boy was trying to help us in his bare feet search through the muddy bog, the mud coming up to midcalf, no luck mom and dad had to return home to get another pair of shoes. At the top of another gondola there was an adventure park. It included trampolines, obstacle courses, a mountain luge/rollercoaster, and high diving boards over an airbag jumping mattress. Mimi loves that nearly all the play equipment was handmade out of wood and was clearly built to help develop sensory motor skills as well as have lots of fun.

An amazing gorge walk above a deep gorge with a river and a small waterfalls. The hike would have been quite scary, except that it had been roped off completely making it very accessible. We enjoyed a picnic lunch sitting by the boat by the river after our hike. The water was beautiful, and it was amazing to see someone swimming in a gorgeous swimming hole, she acknowledged it was very cold.
